A fresh start, by golly

Here I am, bloody but unbowed, dang it! I made it through, unarguably, the toughest year of my life. And you've stayed with me, through it all. Bless! Why go through it all again, except to add that I'm now calling it a major stroke; few people survive it, and most are far, far reduced. I am something of a miracle.

Now we've been through all that, the question is: what next? I'm looking at the book I was writing--History 3, for lack of a better term--and I'm rethinking everything. It'll be SO LONG between book 2 and 3 by then! I may as well make them match, or so I'm thinking. I'm thinking of a short interlude featuring Sedra and Brinnid not long after book 2, and then the longer book featuring Temmin set at least a year after, probably more. Maybe a few years. I've been thinking on what to do with Temmin in any event.

Like most writers, I'm going over what I've done and reworking it in my head. So far, I haven't written it down--I haven't written anything down, really--but I can feel my fingers getting itchy.

Yes. Itchy fingers. At last. It's been a year. Time to get writin'.

I'm glad you're getting back into the swing of things. I've been checking in from time to time and it just broke my heart seeing a new misfortune had struck since the last time I read.

As for to time-skip or not, I say do whatever feels natural. If Temmin and company have been growing in your head this last year and you don't feel you can jump back in as they were, then do the time-skip. But don't feel the need to do it just because you've been away. Their time doesn't have to work like ours does.

... of the new year already. I don't think I've ever been this happy to read about a case of itchy fingers. Biggrin

As for the time skip, I am of two minds about it. On the one hand, if it gets your creative juices flowing, go for it. On the other hand, I was looking forward to seeing more of Sedra's and Brinnid's courtship in the next book, so for this admittedly very egotistical reason the mention of a short interlude featuring those two does not fill me with unalloyed glee. Blum 3

In any case, I wish you and your family a happy new year, filled with health and happiness.

Cheers,
Gudy

Oh, I intend to show it--I always intended to show it. I don't think it'll take up a whole book, though. One thing I'm learning, reading other indies, is that we take up more space than we really should. Sure, it's fine to take a little more, but not so much that people are impatiently riffling pages. I was impatiently riffling pages by the end of the last draft, or about two-thirds of the way through, anyway; that's as far as I got.

Yaaay~ I'm glad to hear you're continuing to improve, and are at the point where you can get itchy fingers. Looking forward to what happens with Temmin, Elly and Sedra!

I think you might like two sets of photos, even though they are later than your main historical interests: London in 1876 http://spitalfieldslife.com/2016/02/06/street-life-in-london/ and Sydney, Australia in the 1920s and 1930s http://sydneylivingmuseums.com.au/justice-police-museum/forensic-archive...
